Curriculum
Block rotation
Our Family Medicine Residency program is 36-months and follows a block rotation schedule, designed to comply with all ACGME Family Medicine Review Committee requirements.
Each year has 13 four-week blocks of 鈥渢raditional鈥� rotations, with longitudinal experiences throughout the training in Health Systems Management/Q1 (3 years), Behavioral Health (3 years) and Geriatrics (2 years). Our residency clinic also is part of the longitudinal experience that crosses all three years of training.
All residents are expected to complete each rotation as scheduled. Rotation information is available on New Innovations. Goals and Objectives for each rotation will be sent via New Innovations to all residents two weeks prior to the start of each rotation.
PGY-1
- Orientation: 1 block
- Inpatient adult: 2 blocks
- Night float: 1 block
- OB: 2 blocks
- Emergency Medicine: 1 block
- Pediatrics out-patient: 1 block
- Clinic and Health Systems: 1 block
- Surgery: 1 block
- ICU: 2 weeks
- Community Medicine: 1 block
- Sub-specialties: 1 block
Orientation: it includes introduction to the basics of residency, behavioral science, community medicine, resident wellness, qualifications for Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics, procedural skills, team building, quality improvement, scholarly activity, EMR training, new innovations training, expectations and milestones, SIMS lab and new hire orientation.
First years have a total of 3 weeks鈥� vacation and are scheduled for 1-week intervals during selected rotations.
PGY-2
- Inpatient adult: 2 blocks
- Night float: 2 block
- GYN: 1 block
- Inpatient pediatrics: 1 block
- Emergency Medicine: 1 block
- Nursing: 1 block
- Electives: 2 blocks
- Community Medicine: 1 block
- Newborn: 1 block
- FMC: 1 block
Second years have a total of 4 weeks鈥� vacation is scheduled for 1-week intervals during selected rotations.
PGY-3
- Inpatient adult: 2 blocks
- Night float: 1 block
- Emergency Medicine Pediatric: 2 weeks
- Pediatrics out-patient: 2 weeks
- Clinic and Health Systems: 2 blocks
- Electives: 2 blocks
- Subspecialties: 2 blocks
- Community Medicine: 1 block
- Ambulatory MSK: 1 block
Third years have a total of 4 weeks鈥� vacation is scheduled for 1鈥搘eek intervals during selected rotations. They also have the option of scheduling international rotations or mission trips for elective rotations.

What is rural medicine and how are residents involved?
Rural areas encompass all population, housing and territory not included within an urban area, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. Rural Americans face numerous health disparities compared to urban Americans, including limited access to quality healthcare such as primary care and specialty services.
To help increase access to healthcare, 网曝门事件 Health in the Central Valley has more than 40 rural health clinics across Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera and Tulare Counties.
Residents of the Hanford Family Medicine Residency program are involved in this effort by providing patient care at a variety of rural health clinics, including at 网曝门事件 Health Medical Offices in Hanford, Home Garden and Lemoore.

The Family Medicine Residency Program is an unopposed program at 网曝门事件 Health Hanford and serves as the primary inpatient service for the medical center. Each year, our residents spend 8 to 10 weeks on inpatient service, 2 - 4 weeks in emergency medicine department, 2 weeks in the ICU, and 4 weeks in obstetrics. The residents are active and involved members of the 网曝门事件 Health Hanford medical staff and are fully integrated into 网曝门事件 Health Hanford environment.
Valley Children鈥檚 Hospital: 52 minutes, 45 miles from 网曝门事件 Health Medical Office 鈥� Hanford Residency.
One of the exciting aspects of our program is the ability to rotate through Valley Children鈥檚 Hospital. Valley Children鈥檚 Hospital is one of the nation鈥檚 largest, most diverse children鈥檚 hospitals in the nation. The program serves as the main children鈥檚 hospital for Central Valley.

Our residents rotate at 网曝门事件 health-fowler medical office, only 30 min away from 网曝门事件 Health Hanford which will allow continuous exposure to primary care services and different specialty rotations including pulmonology, addiction medicine, cardiology, vascular surgery, nephrology, obstetrics/gynecology, and general surgery).

Our sister hospital 网曝门事件 Health Selma located in the heart of San Joaquin Valley between Visalia and Fresno only 30 min away from 网曝门事件 health Hanford is a 57-bed acute-care community medical center that serves 13 communities in southern Fresno County in Central California, operating as a satellite campus of 网曝门事件 Health Hanford. Services include a 24-hour emergency, Inpatient and outpatient surgery and diagnostics, birthing center, direct observation unit, cardiology, and imaging with CT, MRI, and digital mammography. Residents provide culturally competent care to an underserved community.
